The craft of recruitment: Influencing the ‘Moments of Truth’

This workshop flows logically from Greg’s Keynote in the morning. During the post-COVID boom, many recruiters had great success by hiding behind digital and relying on fast-paced transactional resume-racing and accurate logistics. The emergence of AI threatens to diminish the ‘human element’ even more.

That will be a disaster. Modern recruiters must excel at the nuanced ‘craft of recruitment’, creating excellent outcomes via sophisticated influencing skills built on insights, relationships, credibility, advice and trust. Many recruiters lack those skills. Some will never be able to attain them. And for them, the future is bleak.

There is much hysteria about how ‘Generative AI’ will change recruitment. It will, slowly. Unfortunately, that loud noise drowns out the equally important conversation of how current and emerging recruiter skills that have nothing to do with technology are soaring in importance.

The secret is to manage the ‘Moments of Truth’. These critical moments in the process are where nuanced influencing skills create the best result for candidates, clients and recruiters. Greg explains how AI will make these recruiter competencies even more critical and gives compelling examples from these key ‘moments of truth’.

  •   Qualifying a job order
  •   Managing the salary expectations
  •   Managing the candidate’s “Motivation to Accept’ in the first interview
  •   Debriefing a candidate after the interview
  •   Countering the counteroffer
  •   How to deliver an offer
  •   Managing the resignation and the “Valley of Death” (The time between acceptance and start date)

 As Greg accurately explains.

The most significant danger of AI is not knowing what part of the recruitment process should not be handled by AI
